A state of mind… pt.2

A state of mind… pt.2

While I‘m enjoying the luxury of being in Italy for this Summer of the unexpected where it sounds like a miracle to me sitting at my beach-office writing, after all the adversities which have shaken the world currently.

Being bound to rethink through this pandemic. It made me realize how precious time is and how wasteful I sometimes have used it in the past.

Luckily the lockdown in Germany didn‘t went that heavy and turned into a more inspiring period for me – which doesn‘t mean that everybody experienced it same way as I did. Many out there had to work harder and saved our wellbeing at home.

Working from home is my everyday business so this was nothing new to me. But what came along changed my thinking and the way I see my surrounding now. While COVID-19 brought drastic changes in all of our lives it showed perfectly how nowadays our society is working.

Seeing myself confronted with the fact that narcism and egoism is more omnipresent that I could ever imagine even in my personal circle.

I discovered a society who is not able to follow a minimum of rules just because it made their daily life uncomfortable. A society who desires for hyper-tolerance but is not able to wear a mask or keep their ass at home no to mention accepting other opinions. On top crazy toilet-paper hoarders, political decisions in other countries and the effects on many peoples state of mind which we could follow directly and unfiltered through Instagram & Co.

Even though I use social media like Instagram by myself, I discovered a certain change from the sad self-portrayal never ending commercial spots into „I don’t have a paid Ad let’s get naked“ -movement to a very dark place of the so called woke-washing*.

Raised by a very positive and well-cared surrounding my mindset was and is very positive but at some point I had to admit that it even caught me in some way and influenced my thinking in many ways differently now.

Together with the fear of the uncertain, the progression and confrontation of our own luxury living in a world full of advantages and freedom I had more and more the impression that people unlearned to differentiate. I’m discovering a for me very dangerous only PRO or CON society which it’s supersensitivity turns our liberalism into a hyper- moralizing civilization where absolutely nothing in between can be acceptable. Taking offense is the reaction to every minor aliments.

I began to ask myself if we are really so spoiled by our own possibilities, freedom and wealth that we are falling that easily into hyper-moralization? Does it cause a certain boredom which is combined with our huge self-created individualism through social media?

On my way scrolling through Instagram I haven‘t found the perfect answer because it‘s a interaction of many different aspects. But what I‘m sure about for myself is that we need to stop our hyper-criticizing everything and everybody to safe our own freedom and the freedom of speech.

There is no need to have to weigh one‘s words. There is no need to tear people down because they are not speaking up through social media and over all there is no need to use a movement as marketing or to spruce our image.

Seeing brands / influencers also private persons joining movements like blacklifesmatter just because they think they „have“ to or that it would be expected hit me to the core. Suddenly every brand was posting POC everywhere just like they had to prove they are not racist. Like a farce.

Of course on the one hand it was amazing to see that it brought so many people together through the world to fight against afroamerican racism but as amazing it was as dark it turned out.

Realizing that from the fact many are just had to „inform“ theirselves like it would have been something new concerning the police power in the US, to generalize or to just „use“ the current movement and situation to indicate other supported injustices.

For example: lately, a lady who owns a hotel in the north of Germany claimed that she will not host any guests over 120kg because it would destroy the hotels furniture.

No question the most ridiculous thing I‘ve ever heard. Was it insolent? Absolutely! Was ist disrespecting? Without a doubt! Do we have to feel discriminated? Maybe. Does it lead to include overweight into the discrimination law? Extreme.

Unmitstakable that this Lady is crazy and by being blamed in the news it makes it already a fast-selling item concerning her reputation. So do we have to put more „weight“ on?

Obviously. Instead of leaving it behind we have to open another huge discussion just because our society is now accessable for that?

In my opinion, ridiculous. Not only because of the open ear our society might have right the moment also because how dare to think that we have a handicap and how rude for all other truly handicapend ones. I don’t see myself as handicapt and I do not see myself disadvantaged. Even tho’ having friends supporting this kind of movement – I‘m against it.

It draws a very pitiful image on all those who have fought for consciousness and self-acceptance.

It‘s right to create awareness but don’t believe integrating it into a law will help you feeling better about yourself. The only thing I see coming is that will rather create more and more a divided society.

To get one thing straight right here – it‘s not about the fact that you have to tolerate everything, absolutely not but there is a fine line in between seeing ourselves always as something special and a real need for integration into the discrimination law. It would rather help to work on the picture of how we see ourselves than approaching the victim role – but latter is the easier one of course.

The Question why we are so addicted to the acceptance by our surrounding and the yearning more and more to be respected, tolerated with everything and by everybody than being respected by someone’s self is somehow related to the likes and commenting section of Instagram and it makes it just too clear that we are not facing with our on way how we see ourselves more than we are seen by society. Which underlines again our narcism in every kind of way.

What are your thoughts about it? I‘m keen to read your thoughts.
